Ashley Koch, 38, has been remembered as a ‘top bloke’ after he died in a workplace accident in Elizabeth South
A father of two has been remembered as a “wonderful young man” after he tragically died in an Adelaide workplace accident on Friday.
Ashley ‘Koffee’ Koch, 38, went to work on Friday morning but never made it home after he was tragically killed in a workplace accident in Elizabeth South.
Masses of emergency services personnel were seen racing to the old Holden factory on the Philip Highway at Elizabeth South after reports a man had become trapped in machinery just before 10.30am.
Mr Koch from Para Hills died at the scene, leaving behind his wife and two children.
The Port Wakefield Bowling Club, of which Mr Koch had been an “on-and-off member” for more than 20 years, confirmed the sad news on Friday night.
“He’s a top bloke, Ashley,” club president Rob Gordon said.
“He’d do anything for anybody, a real club man that cared.
“Ashley Koch was part of our successes as a club, he was an integral part of many premierships with our club.”
The bowling club shared that Mr Koch had been a member of the Balaklava and Para Hills Bowling Clubs in a Facebook post on Friday night.
“Koffee was a WSP Premiership player many times over, a division 1 skipper, a club champion (2007/08), an association/regional championship player, a state U18 pairs player (2002/03), and an all-round great player,” the post read.
“He will be sorely missed by all as he was a beloved family man, husband, father and a true friend to anyone he crossed paths with.
“As we say goodnight to Koffee, please raise a glass tonight in his honour.”
Mr Gordon said the club passed on its condolences to Mr Koch’s family.
“It’s never good to lose a mate,” he said.
Friends and acquaintances of Mr Koch shared their love in the post too, remembering him as “such a lovely man”.
“Far too much sad news in recent times. RIP Koffee, you were a champion bloke,” one person wrote.
“This is never gonna feel real,” another wrote.
Following Mr Koch’s workplace accident on Friday morning, a SafeWork SA spokesperson said inspectors were attending the incident and inquiries were continuing.
Police said there were no suspicious circumstances and a report would be prepared for the coroner.
