Adelaide Crows forward Josh Rachele joins TikTok dance trend from hospital bed

Adelaide livewire Josh Rachele hasn’t let a painful knee injury stop him from jumping on to the latest viral trend.

Josh Rachele may have been stuck in a hospital after a painful knee injury but his spirits seem to be high.

The star small forward is expected to miss a number of matches after landing awkwardly on his left leg late in the first half against Melbourne on Sunday.

However, news he avoided an anterior crucial ligament rupture would be a relief for the Crows as would to see the star in good spirits on social media.

From his hospital bed, the 22-year-old became the latest sports star to join in on the “Indonesian boat kid aura farming trend”.

He posted a video of him doing the dance moves, albeit on his back in a hospital bed, to his 37k followers on TikTok, where he is no stranger to posting his attempts at the latest viral crazes.

The “boat kid aura farming” dance moves have been going viral after a video emerged of a child dancing during the Pacu Jalur, a traditional cultural boat race on the Indonesian island of Sumatra.

The dance has become a popular sports celebration with former Crow and current Brisbane Lions forward Charlie Cameron and Rachele’s Adelaide teammate Izak Rankine pulling the moves during recent matches.

The moves made it the NRL’s annual Try July campaign – where players lift their celebrations to an highest – with Melbourne Storm player Nick Meaney channelling his inner “boat kid”.

The celebration has also been seen on the international soccer stage, Major-league Baseball and in motorsport events across the world.

Rachele has successfully undergone surgery on his knee following a Posterior Capsular tear.

Following scans on Monday, Rachele underwent surgery on Tuesday and is now recovering.

Crows High Performance Manager Darren Burgess said the surgery “went really well”.

“We’ll be a bit clearer on timelines (for a return) in a couple of weeks,” he said.

“We’re hoping he’ll be back as soon as possible and that will depend on how his rehab goes.”
