2000 new homes coming to Onkaparinga Heights, in Adelaide’s south in 2026
Construction plans for up to 2000 new homes in a new suburb in Adelaide’s south has his a major new milestone.
A landmark step has been taken towards the construction of up to 2000 new homes in the southern suburbs, with work set to begin as early as 2026.
The stat government has reached a critical milestone at the Onkaparinga Heights site, formally signing infrastructure deeds with landowners.
This paves the way for essential groundwork such as earthworks, road networks, and water infrastructure to begin later this year.
The development, located at the end of the Southern Expressway, will deliver at least 20 per cent affordable housing and is part of the government’s broader strategy to address the housing crisis.
“This is an important step forward towards getting 2000 new homes built at Onkaparinga Heights,” Housing Minister Nick Champion said.
With the land already rezoned for housing, the Onkaparinga Heights development is set to become the first of several new greenfield projects.
“It’s so exciting for our community to see these housing opportunities coming,” said local MP Nat Cook.
The site is expected to offer families the chance to settle in a region known for its stunning beaches, wineries, and strong community spirit.
“As the southern suburbs continue to grow, this development at Onkaparinga Heights marks a key step in addressing housing affordability and accessibility,” said Amanda Rishworth, MP.
The Onkaparinga Heights development is proposed to be brought to market in mid-2025, with construction expected to transform the area by 2026.
