Skehan family to sell Caringa Aggregation and Twigg family to sell Pinelee at Corowa

Two separate southern Riverina family farms are for sale for the first time in decades, with both hotly anticipated auctions coming next month.

Time to invest: Where the money is coming from

Two historic family farms, totalling more than 1000ha have hit the market in NSW’s tightly- held southern Riverina region.

The Skehan family are selling the Caringa Aggregation at Corowa while the Twigg family are selling their unique dairy enterprise, with just 17km separating the two properties.

Both farms are scheduled for auction in July and could fetch offers worth a combined $20 million.

For the first time in more than 100 years the 507ha Caringa Aggregation at Corowa is for sale and scheduled for auction on July 21.

The farm is for sale in three lots, Caringa (134ha), Moonleong (256ha) and Freyers (116ha), with offers tipped to exceed $20,900 a hectare, or more than $10m for the whole property.

Moonleong and Freyers are currently leased until the end of 2023.

The Skehan family acquired the aggregation during the post-WWI settlement era, turning the land into a cropping and livestock enterprise.

Elders Albury rural real estate specialist and selling agent David Gittoes said the Caringa Aggregation would appeal to locals wanting to add to their existing Riverina farmland.

Meanwhile, 17km north of the Caringa holdings, the 518ha Pinelee dairy farm at 120 Sandford Rd, Corowa, is for sale for the first time in more than four decades.

The Twigg family are selling the unique property, which is one of the very few dairy farms in the Southern Riverina region.

The property is heading to auction on July 15, with offers tipped at $10m-plus.

Paull and Scollard Nutrien Albury selling agent Roger Bramley said many different buyers might be interested in the farm.

“Buyer interest will come from local producers, dairy farmers expanding or corporate dairy investment, as well as other rural corporate investors such as horticulture and nuts,” Mr Bramley said.

The Twigg family decided to capitalise on a growing dairy industry in the 1980s, expanding the land to an 800 cow dairy, with 600ML West Corurgan Irrigation licence and 561ML Groundwater licence.

About 360ha are irrigated, with two centre pivots, a 500ML recycle dam, two operating bores and an automated 60-cow rotary dairy.

Earlier this month the final segments of a $70m Gippsland dairy farm portfolio were sold with four separate buyers securing a slice.
