Siguenza family back home Alice Springs in wake of horror alleged attack that fractured baby’s skull
A baby girl who suffered a fractured skull during an alleged home invasion ‘is doing a whole lot better’, as her family returns to Alice Springs. A second fundraiser is being held, read the details.
The family of a little girl whose skull was fractured during a horror alleged home invasion in Alice Springs have returned home – with a second fundraiser to support the family planned.
Now back in Alice Springs, the Siguenza family are gearing up for an extra special Saturday night at the brewery, where the Alice Springs community is set to hold another fundraiser for them.
Organised by Dustin Salmon from Alice Springs Correctional Centre’s prison officers’ club and The Butterfly Connection chairperson Rachel McCallum, 57 business – both local and interstate – have hopped on board to donate prizes.
Prizes include a three-night stay at a holiday cabin, a scenic flight through the Red Centre, a ferry ride over to Kangaroo Island, and more.
Marlon Siguenza, a corrections officer, said the last month had been a “whirlwind of trauma and emotion” but the family is doing better now they’re home.
On December 11, two-month-old Antonia and mother Nicole were flown to Adelaide hospital from Alice Springs.
Ms Siguenza, who was holding Antonia, had allegedly been struck in the face with a metal pole wielded by one of two teenage boys in a terrifying home invasion.
As a result, Antonia’s skull was fractured.
The two teens, aged 16 and 17, were both charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, unlawfully cause serious harm, aggravated assault, and theft.
It was later revealed both had been bailed a collective 35 times prior to the alleged attack.
They first fronted court on December 12, where neither entered a plea.
Judge David Woodroffe placed both on remand, and both will return to court in February.
Mr Siguenza said his had arrived back in Alice Springs last week, with Antonia now “doing a whole lot better”.
Mr Salmon said the fundraiser was originally planned to be held in the prison officer’s club on New Years, but due to the outpouring of support, he realised the venue “was potentially not going to be big enough”.
He said Alice Springs Brewing Co owner Kyle Pearson had loaned the venue for free, and Alice Silver Services is set to offer a free chauffeur service to and from the venue.
Entry will be $20, which gets punters a drink and the chance to win a door prize: a hamper or a $200 voucher.
There will be live music, a variety of items of auctions, and a raffle, with all proceeds raised going to the Siguenzas.
Ms McCallum said while “there’s a few bad things that happen in our town, I think it’s counteracted by amazing the community is and how supportive they can be”.
In the wake of the incident, more than $50,000 has been raised for the Siguenzas on GoFundMe, while the community raised more than $1000 in a bake sale.
