Learn more about the Shine Awards 2020
Everyone knows a rural woman whose vision, dedication, spirit, belief, grace and courage make a real difference to her community or industry. The Shine Awards nomination deadline is midnight tonight.
THE Shine Awards is a campaign by The Weekly Times, supported by Harvey Norman, that celebrates the vision, dedication, spirit, belief, grace and courage of women across rural and regional Australia.
ABOUT THE SHINE AWARDS
Over 12 weeks, The Weekly Times will highlight women on farms and off them, in rural towns, sporting clubs, businesses and schools whose achievements deserve to be recognised. Their stories will appear in The Weekly Times, at theweeklytimes.com.au and in our magazines.
From stories that have appeared throughout the year, finalists will be chosen in six categories: Passion, Belief, Grace, Spirit, Dedication and Courage.
On November 18, six winners will be announced.
Each will be awarded a $2500 voucher from Harvey Norman. One of the 18 finalists will also be named the overall Shine winner and receive a further $5000.
Shine is a forum for readers to nominate women whose stories deserve to be told.
SHINE’S MISSION IN 2020
In this fourth year of the Shine Awards, when Australia’s regions and towns are facing extraordinary challenges, the mission of this campaign has never been more important.
Shine puts the spotlight on regional and rural women who are making a real difference to their communities, businesses and industries.
The Weekly Times, in partnership with Harvey Norman, celebrates the vision, dedication, spirit, belief, grace and courage of women across rural and regional Australia by sharing stories of female achievement.
The 18 Shine Awards finalists honoured last year were all powerhouse women. From humble Inverell NSW cattle farmer Margy Perkuhn who founded a drought-support campaign called Fierce Female Farmers to para-equestrian Bridget Murphy from Healesville, Victoria, who is aiming for the next Olympics; the 2019 finalists achieved great things while also inspiring others. Margy’s Fierce Female Farmers initiative is a perfect example of the crucial and unsung work rural women do across Australia.
“The exposure and recognition from my Shine experience enabled me to reach more rural women than I ever expected,” Margy says. “The award acted as a beacon for many rural women in my own area who took courage from my story to finally reach out for help.”
I’m sure you know women like Margy Perkuhn, Bridget Murphy and our first three nominees of 2020, Sarah Mostyn, Susan Patterson and Sophie Murfitt.
We’d love to hear about them so we can share their stories.
