NSW cattle: Light steers sold dearer
The market for bullocks was dearer with a top of 351c/kg. Feeder steers sold between 350c/kg and 390c/kg.
CASINO
THERE was a yarding of 1619 head. Around 1000 young cattle were sold consisting mainly of vealers and weaner cattle, along with a small offering of yearlings. Quality was fairly good with several runs of well- finished cattle, along with a good number of well-bred steers and heifers. Restockers once again dominated the sale, buying the largest percentage of young cattle. Competition was stronger with most cattle selling to dearer trends, with restocker vealer steers up by 10c, topping at 494c, while the restocker vealer heifers topped at 438c/kg. Feeder steers sold to 338c and heifers topped at 388c/kg. Grown steers held firm topping at 325c and heifers sold to 338c/kg. The cow market was down by 10c to 15c with some of the plainer grades down by 20c/kg. Medium weight 3-score cows averaged 260c and heavy cows topped at 298c/kg. Bulls eased to 300c/kg.
GRAFTON
629 head of cattle yarded at Grafton this week. The market for bullocks was dearer with a top of 351c/kg. Feeder steers sold between 350c/kg and 390c/kg. Cows were a shade easier to top at 290c/kg with most sales between 250c/kg to 280c/kg. Weaners were in strong demand with the steers selling to 520c/kg. John O’Meally bullocks sold to 332c/kg weighed 645kg to return $2130/hd. Crowe Farms bullocks sold to 351c/kg weighed 520kg to return $1821/hd. R J Robertson bullocks sold to 328c/kg weighed 660kg to return $2153/hd. Helen Jones feeder steers sold to 386c/kg weighed 406kg to return $1560/hd. D N & V A McLennan feeder steers sold to 382c/kg weighed 385kg to return $1465/hd. Heifer Station heifers sold to 330c/kg weighed 480kg to return $1575/hd.
A D & M L Scott cows sold to 280c/kg weighed 495kg to return $1375/hd. G R & R T J Winter cows sold to 282c/kg weighed 522kg to return $1501/hd. Hills Creek Brahman cross steers sold to 450c/kg weighed 260kg to return $1165/hd.
LISMORE
220 cattle were sold at the Lismore Saleyards on Tuesday.
Cows sold at cheaper rates but all vealers/weaner held firm. Only a handful of good heavy cows were yarded – $2.50 to $2.60/kg. Secondary cows sold from $2 to $2.40/kg.
Most plain in condition older cows sold from $1.60 to $2.10/kg. Vealers/weaners sold to good competition. Bernie Balzers Angus cross heifer yearling sold for $3.88/kg, $1358. Light weaner steers sold for $4.70 /kg and those 200 to 250kg $4.20 to $4.40/kg. Good quality weaner heifers sold from $3.70 to $4.36/kg.
INVERELL
NUMBERS reduced once more to pen 148 head less, in a penning of 380 head where just over 100 cows were offered. A major processor returned after a short absence and all other operators competed in a dearer market. Light steer weaners saw a much dearer trend to restockers, as did the heifer portion, as much as 40c/kg. Light yearling steers saw significantly dearer trends to backgrounders, with feeder steers showing dearer trends of 13c/kg. Medium weight steers, however did see a cheaper trends, back 12c/kg. Very light yearling heifers saw substantial rises, again to restockers. Trade heifers experienced good rises. Limited numbers of grown steers sold to 358c/kg. Grown heifers saw rises of as much as 19c, topping at 320c/kg. Medium weight cows sold to dearer trends of 14c/kg. D3 cows also saw rises of 6c/kg. The bull market sold to dearer trends, with heavy bulls selling to 27c/kg better.
