Rural crime: Merino ewes reported missing from Walgett

Police are appealing for public information after 120 Merino ewes disappeared from a property near Walgett in NSW.

Police are investigating the potential theft of 120 Merino ewes in northern NSW.

Rural crime investigators from Walgett are seeking the whereabouts of ewes from a property on the Kamilaroi Highway located about 50km east of Walgett.

Police say the sheep went missing between November 3 and December 1.

On December 13 rural crime investigators from Walgett attended the property with a side-by-side vehicle and assisted the landholder in trying to locate the sheep.

An extensive search of the property was conducted and the missing sheep were not found.

The sheep are described as being 2021-drop Merino ewes.

They have yellow National Livestock Identification Scheme tags with Property Identification Code NJ560073.

The ewes also have a have-moon shape earmark on the tip of the offside ear and have been mulesed.
