Stolen HiLux hooned through Katherine, three kids arrested

Police say a group of youths were driving a stolen HiLux through Katherine at dangerous speeds, with some kids seen hanging out the back of the tray. Details.

Three kids have been arrested after a stolen vehicle was brought to a halt, with police searching for several more who fled on foot.

Three kids have been arrested with police on the search for several more after a group of children allegedly stole a Toyota HiLux before hooning it around the town of Katherine at high speed.

About 1.40am on Tuesday, police identified a stolen HiLux being driven erratically through the town.

It is understood police refrained from aggressively pursuing the vehicle due to a number of kids seen in the tray of the stolen vehicle.

Using CCTV footage, police monitored the vehicle before officers covertly employed a tyre deflation device.

About 3.30am, the HiLux was successfully hindered by the TDD, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

Two 12-year-olds and a 15-year-old were arrested, however “a number” of other offenders fled on foot, according to a police spokesman.

The three arrested youths have been taken into custody with charges yet to be laid.

Police continue to investigate the identities and whereabouts of those who fled.

Stolen vehicle used in double ram raid in Darwin

March 24, 3pm: A car stolen in Palmerston overnight was used to ram raid two licensed premises in the space of an hour, police allege, with the offenders still at large.

About 1.55am on Monday, police received reports the front doors of a licensed premises on Winnellie Road were rammed by a vehicle, before two males entered the building and attempted to steal multiple items.

At 2.35am, a licensed premises in Humpty Doo was also rammed, with a quantity of alcohol stolen.

Strike Force Trident detectives have identified a vehicle stolen from Roseberry as the car used to conduct both raids.

The stolen vehicle has since been recovered abandoned in Palmerston.

Investigations remain ongoing, with police anyone with information to contact 131 444 and quote reference number P25080487.

Hero sniffer dog foils drug, alcohol smuggling attempt

March 24, 3pm: A 52-year-old man was arrested at Darwin Airport after a sniffer dog allegedly found a stash of cannabis and alcohol inside his luggage on a flight booked for a dry community.

On March 18, during a routine check at Darwin Airport, drug detection dog ‘Rafa’ located substances inside luggage that was destined for Milingimbi.

Police say 800 grams of cannabis and 3 litres of alcohol was seized by authorities.

A 52-year-old man, alleged to be the owner of the luggage, was arrested and charged with possessing and supplying a commercial quantity of schedule 2 dangerous drug, possessing (something) to administer a dangerous drug, and bringing liquor into an alcohol protected area.

Senior Sergeant Meacham King said the alleged actions would “not be tolerated”.

“The impact of alcohol and other drugs in vulnerable communities can cause significant harm through financial, health and social outcomes,” he said.

“Great job, DDD Rafa and team.”

Teenager charged following Karama service station robbery

March 24, 12pm: A 17 year-old accused of robbing a Karama service station with a weapon before vandalising a nearby residence will face court.

About 8.10am on Saturday, police received reports of a robbery at the EG Fuels service station on the corner of Kalymnos Drive and Koolinda Crescent.

Police say a male entered the premises armed with an edged weapon and stole food before fleeing on foot.

A short time later, police received reports the same alleged offender damaged a residence on Dorrigo Crescent with the edged weapon.

General duties officers were dispatched to the area and arrested a 17 year-old boy without issue.

The alleged offender has since been charged with going equipped for theft, aggravated robbery, theft, going armed in public and damaging property.

He was remanded to appear in court on Monday.

Ambos disrupted after car set alight outside medical clinic

March 24, 7am: A woman has been arrested after a Land Cruiser was set alight at the Palmerston Super Clinic overnight.

About 11.24pm on Sunday, police received reports a vehicle was engulfed in flames in the car park of the Palmerston Super Clinic.

On arrival, authorities discovered a Land Cruiser burning, with a stationary vehicle alongside it also sustained damage.

After the fire was extinguished, a crime scene was established with police quickly identifying a suspect.

A 49-year-old woman was subsequently arrested and remains in police custody, with the Serious Crime Squad continuing their investigation.

No charges have been laid.

The incident reportedly disrupted St John NT operations, with a spokesman confirming ambulances were unable to return to normal operations until 5am when the scene was cleared.
