Man hides razors up bum: Court told of bizarre hiding spot

When this Queensland man was taken into custody he told police he had two razor blades in his possession, but officers failed to locate them in a pat down. Then, things got interesting.

A MAN who hid razor blades in his bottom before being taken into custody was refused bail on Friday.

Joshua William Lawrence, 39, appeared in Bundaberg Magistrates Court where he was facing two counts of stealing.

Police opposed his application for bail.

On July 20, Lawrence attended the Bunnings store in Gympie where he stole multiple items.

He did the same again on October 12 at Bunnings in Castledine.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Tina Bland told the court the 39-year-old was on bail for other charges including a dangerous driving after an incident where he allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road near Springwood.

Another incident included an assault occasioning bodily harm, and another stealing offence where he allegedly stole a knife block worth $1000.

Police executed a search warrant at Lawrence's home between Monto and Eidsvold where he was taken into custody.

Sen Const Bland said when Lawrence was taken into custody on Thursday he told police he had two razor blades in his possession.

A strip search was conducted when officers failed to locate them in a pat down.

The blades were then found in his anus.

Lawrence's lawyer Lavonda Maloy told the court Lawrence had been diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder and also a personality disorder.

Ms Maloy said Lawrence was fully co-operative with police and that he was willing to report as a condition of bail.

Magistrate Bronwyn Hartigan took into account Lawrence's history which dated back to 1997 before making her decision.

Ms Hartigan said it was clear Lawrence travelled away to commit his offences.

She said he also needed "significant mental health intervention".

Ms Hartigan found Lawrence was an unacceptable risk of reoffending and denied him bail. Lawrence pleaded guilty to both charges and will be sentenced at a later date.
