TOOWOOMBA Road Policing Unit and Zarraffa's Coffee Newtown have partnered to reward good driver behaviour and promote safer roads.

The campaign will run alongside the statewide safety initiative Operation Cold Snap.

Every driver intercepted for a random breath test who returns a negative reading at various police operations for the next two months will receive a voucher for a free coffee.

The initiative, devised by Zarraffa's franchisee Damian Doyle and supported by RPU Sergeant Brendan Harding aims to reward good driving behaviour and positively promote road safety and police interactions.

Mr Doyle said recent tragedies on the region's roads had reinforced the businesses' desire to partner with police for road safety.

"I'm a father of four children and all my employees are around 19 to 20 years age," he said.

"So we want to enact some positive behaviour and reward that positive behaviour through this campaign with the local QPS."

Sgt Harding said the free coffee initiative would roll out across the region over the next two months, and warned people to expect to be breath tested.

"I think people understand that breath testing is a way of life," he said.

"Our focus for this period in 2019 is going to be on breath testing so expect to see a large volume of police and expect to be breath tested.

"There will be an emphasis on patrols out on the highways."

He said the region had experienced several road tragedies in recent months, with Road Policing Command working to curb the horrific toll.

Operation Cold Snap officially runs from June 29 to July 19, with a coordinated state-wide enforcement designed to improve road safety and reduce the number of fatal or serious injury traffic crashes.

Drink and drug driving will be the particular focus for police across Darling Downs' towns, cities and highways.
