A Cairns paramedic was forced to perform CPR on her partner after he started seizing, bleeding from his mouth and eventually had a tumour removed from the front of his brain.
Tom Wilson, 22 of Babinda, underwent surgery on Tuesday at Townsville University Hospital to remove the lump doctors have yet to diagnose.
It came almost two weeks after his partner Chloe Lee, who is a paramedic, woke in the middle of the night to Tom having an unexpected seizure.
His mother Tracy Wilson told the Cairns Post Chloe performed CPR after he was rushed to Babinda Hospital.
“There were no emergency buttons, so Chloe just screamed for help. She was doing his breathing for him,” she said.
“All in the meantime he’s bitten his tongue and he’s got blood spurting out. It was quite horrific.”
The next morning he was sent to Cairns Hospital where Ms Wilson said the couple went into “panic mode” after being told scans revealed Tom had a cancerous brain tumour.
“But then (the doctors) sort of narrowed that back because they don’t know if it’s cancer or not,” Ms Wilson said.
Tom was kept in hospital for a few days and put on anti-seizure medication, while his business Gone Wild Tree Services has temporarily closed.
The couple then drove down to Townsville on Sunday for a neurologist appointment and operation to remove the tumour.
“Chloe has taken time off work and has literally been his shadow, watching his every move in case she needs to basically resuscitate him again (between hospital visits),” Ms Wilson said.
“We don’t know exactly what it is, no one knows how long it’s been there for. It could be a week or two weeks before we get the results.”
Ms Wilson has launched a GoFundMe to support Tom, Chloe, their 18-month-old daughter Miller and second child on the way.
“Automatically because he had the seizures, he’s lost his truck licence, so he will never ever be able to drive his work truck again, which he just bought,” Ms Wilson said.
“They are just the most loving couple. Thomas is a bit of a larrikin, but you know, everyone loves him.
“It’s just the unknown. Going in for brain surgery at 22-years-old and having your career just destroyed because of what? What is it?”
More than $6000 has rolled into the fundraiser in just two days.
