A passion project from local builder Ross Barling of BarossBuilt Homes, this custom-build started out as a two-bedroom 1960s cottage but has been raised and redesigned with some beautiful features, including a 4.5m cathedral ceiling from the lounge to the outdoor entertaining area with glass panels giving the ceiling an infinity feel. The renovated home, with polished concrete floors, has never been lived in and among the 95 groups who have inspected the property are families and inner city buyers looking to step away from the inner city but still be connected by rail.
Two-bedroom cottage in Teneriffe sells
2 Bed 1 Bath 1 Car on 465 sqm
Agent: Jason Bond, Elever Property Group — Brisbane
Auctioneer: Justin Nickerson
A two-week campaign with 100 inspections sees this original condition 1920s cottage come to auction. Up to 10 registered bidders are expected with four pre-registering ahead of time.
The seller has owned the property for around 30 years and it is currently rented on a periodic lease for $600 a week.
“There’s still a few of these homes left in Teneriffe,” estate agent Jason Bond says. “A lot of Italians bought homes here in the 1940s and 50s when they migrated after the war and a lot have held on to them.”
Neighbouring homes have already been renovated and feature rooftop decks with views toward Newstead and Fortitude Valley.
“The cool thing is this property has that value add of a massive renovation (in the future) that will put it in the $4 million range.”
Developers and homeowners in their mid to late 30s who are interested in doing their own renovation will be among the auction-day bidders.
Sunnybank Hills family home sells for $783,000
8 Westaway St, Sunnybank Hills

Sydney and Melbourne buyers have already registered by phone for the auction of this deceased estate and will be competing with a multicultural mix of first home buyers and young couples.
The 45-year-old home needs some TLC but is in the sought-after Sunnybank Hills State School catchment.
A total of 28 buyer groups have inspected the property during its two-week auction campaign and the successful buyer could pick up the keys in as little as 30 days.
Norman Park investment property goes for $1.075 million
3 Bed 1 Bath 1 Car on 307 sqm
Agents: Paula Pearce and Mikaela Crone, Place Bulimba
Auctioneer: Paul Curtain
Two Sydney buyers are among the five pre-registered bidders taking this investment property to auction.
A 30-day contract is on offer but the property is tenanted until early next year.
“Most of the buyers are fine with that, and particularly if an interstate buyer is the purchaser, it will probably be 12 months before they move up,” selling agent Mikaela Crone says.
The main interest is coming from young families wanting to move in to the property which has a garage and storage area downstairs with all living and bedrooms upstairs and a concealed laundry on the back deck.
Renovated Camp Hill classic goes for $1,235,000
4 Bed 2 Bath 2 Car on 602 sqm

‘Auction of the year’: Classy Sandgate stunner goes for $1.64m
4 Bed 2 Bath 2 Car on 816 sqm
Agent: Jacqui McKeering, Jim McKeering Real Estate — Sandgate
Auctioneer: Justin Nickerson
Touted as Sandgate’s ‘auction of the year’, this six-year-old house is one street back from the beachfront and has been inspired by the homes of San Diego with hardwood timber floors throughout the open-plan living areas, and an open back deck that overlooks the swimming pool.
Some 64 groups of buyers have inspected the home over three weekends and 10 pre-registrations from bidders have already been received, with one phone bidder from the ACT.
The sellers have asked for a 60-day settlement as they are relocating to Western Australia.
The new owners of this property will also have personal access to a secret pathway to the waterfront.
