A Melbourne couple have scooped up a highly sought-after Buderim home for just under $2m thanks to a last minute Uber ride.

The Forestwood Drive property had previously been sold as a block of land and then transformed into a four-bedroom “amazing” home within 12 months.

Prime Property Sunshine Coast principal Brenden Southey said the property garnered a “massive” amount of interest during its four-week campaign, particularly from Sunshine Coast residents.

“We had about 70 inspections and two offers prior which we held off and went to auction,” he said.

“We had numerous registered bidders at the auction.”

Mr Southey received a phone call on the day of the auction from a Melbourne couple who had seen the home advertised while grabbing a coffee at Little Fig Cafe.

The Brighton pair, who own an IT business, were on holiday for a week on the Coast when they made the snap decision to attend the auction.

“She asked if they were OK if they could come along and have a look and bid if they liked the property,” Mr Southey said.

“They caught an Uber there because they were on holidays, didn’t know where they were going.”

Despite the large crowd at the auction, the couple swooped in at the last minute and put forward the highest bid of $1,995,000.

Mr Southey said they were thrilled with the purchase.

“They outbid a local couple who put in an offer prior,” he said.

“They’re just over the moon, they love it. Can’t wait to move here.”

The couple didn’t even have the chance to view the entire property before placing the offer, but went back the next day and knew they had made the right decision.

The 398sq m home features a triple garage with enough room for boats and vans, an infinity pool and stunning views.

“It’s a beautiful house,” Mr Southey said.

“It would be the highest sale in that particular area by a long way.”

Mr Southey said residents would have to get in quick for a chance to snap up properties as impressive as the Buderim abode.

“The days on market are certainly lower than what they had been, so there is multiple people turning up to an inspection,” he said.

“The nicer properties in the great locations, we have heaps and heaps of people turning up.”
