Local buyer to steer Glenfruin’s next chapter

Multimillion dollar home sales are becoming more common in Launceston and with historic icon Glenfruin changing hands, a record price has been set.

Australian property market: Are lending standards about to tighten?

A HISTORIC Launceston home has found its next custodian and set a new pricing benchmark for Tassie’s northern capital.

Glenfruin in Brisbane St, Launceston is no stranger to multimillion sale prices having last changed hands in 2018 for $3.25 million.

Property representative Katrina Garwood from Parry Property described the home as “magnificent” and “incredible”.

Ms Garwood said a local Launceston couple had purchased the home and that the price was undisclosed.

“I can say, for Launceston, it was a record price,” she said.

“I don’t think it will be back on the market anytime soon because they absolutely love it.

“From the minute they stepped inside, it was evident that this beautiful local couple had fallen in love with Glenfruin.

“And we wish them all the best in their fabulous new home.

“It is lovely that it was bought by locals, by people who appreciate Glenfruin for all that it is.”

Built in the 1880s, Glenfruin is a superb example of early Italianate architecture blended with ultra-modern contemporary lifestyle features.

The home is positioned on the edge of the city and opposite Launceston’s City Park.

Throughout the home there are pressed metal ceilings and crystal chandeliers, floor-to-ceiling double glazed glass doors, a private courtyard, formal and casual living areas and a gourmet kitchen.

The show stopping kitchen has red marble benches, a fridge draw, an integrated dishwasher and electronic cupboard doors.

A spectacular floating timber staircase joins the top and lower floors.

The kingsize master suite is as elegant as it is expansive including a massive dressing room and a full-size bathroom.

Low maintenance terraced gardens, hydronic heating, underfloor insulation, double glazing, video security and pin code entry are among the 1400sq m property’s abundant features.

Ms Garwood sold the home in 2011, which was before the interior renovation.

“Glenfruin is one of a kind, there is nothing like it in Tasmania,” she said.

“This historic home’s architecture can make you wonder, for a moment, if you have been transported to Italy.

“In 2011, the couple that bought it undertook an expansive, complete modern renovation of the interiors. It’s incredible, truly exquisite.”

“Glenfruin is just one of those special properties; what could you not love about it?

“It is an icon in the city.”
