A LITTLE known block considered to be one of the last remaining undeveloped Cairns North land parcels, has been offered for sale

The lot on two titles at 39 Law St fronts the Kuranda train line and is bordered by Lilly Creek and bushland to the west.

Colliers International Cairns executive agent Jay Beattie has been in the Far North real estate game for 19 years but can’t’ remember the last time an open block of this size was listed for sale.

“I also did an area search for Cairns North and couldn’t find anything,” he said.

The site is being offered for sale on an “as is, where is” basis and is currently zoned as open.

“Traditionally open zoned lots are turned into parks or sporting fields. But it’s been dormant for a long time. So with council approval there’s scope for multiple developments,” he said.

The mostly flat conveniently positioned block is about 650m from the main thoroughfare of Sheridan St.

It offers the added benefit of direct access to the city centre and north to the northern beaches suburbs.

The property will be sold at auction this Thursday.

Currently held by Queensland Rail the site comprises two adjoining allotments covering a substantial 1.01ha however little is known about the former use of the land.

Given the sites former use Mr Beattie speculated future commercial use could be an option for new owners.

“The unique commercial land was previously utilised as a timber yard and I see no reason through the necessary planning processes why other commercial or residential opportunities could not be considered for the property,” he said.

According to RP Data the land was valued at $870,000 in 2019.

The centrally positioned site has been predominantly cleared with remnant regrowth and some established vegetation remaining on the property’s fringes.

The secluded natural setting is somewhat private and presents a blank canvas for a residential development opportunity, subject to council approval.

The auction kicks off from 11am at 35 Lake Street.

Bidding by phone and internet is available via prior registration, however arrangements must be made no later than 24 hours prior to auction.
