Stunning tropical homes that fully embrace indoor-outdoor living are the latest million-dollar sales being racked up in the beautiful Cairns seaside suburb as seachangers hunt for greater value for money across the Queensland coast.

The 18 houses that sold for over a million dollars in Palm Cove so far this year also far outweigh the total for the entire 2020 sales period for the suburb – with just four houses showing $1m-plus sales in 2020 according to CoreLogic records.
Buyers are still snapping up houses below a million dollars as well with 26 of the 44 house sold in Palm Cove since the start of this year (January 1 to July 21) coming in below seven digits. The year to date house sales are also gaining ground strongly on last year’s total house sales in the suburb, which came in at 55 for the entire 2020 period, according to CoreLogic.
Real estate agent Keegan Lake of Cairns Platinum Realty Trinity Park said there has been a big surge in interest.
“Basically what we’re seeing is a large increase in interest especially from southerners and also from people moving across from New Zealand as well,” he said.
“A lot of them are just looking to get into an area that’s not Covid-19 affected, because the risk of lockdown is getting to a lot of people.”
He said Cairns had always been a destination people aspired to retire to or move to for a more relaxed way of life.
“What we’re seeing is a lot of people who planned to move to Cairns in say 10 years’ time – after everything Covid-19 has brought to the country – they’ve turned around and are now saying we’ve decided to fast-forward our plans to move here as soon as possible.”
“It is a big surge,” he said, but expected demand to continue to be met through new developments across the northern beaches.
“There’s continual land development, look at Blue Bluewater in Trinity, Argentea in Palm Cove, it looks like there’s still a lot of land coming to market in northern beaches for people to continue building on and creating more homes.”
Among million dollar sales in recent weeks in Palm Cove was an award-winning home built by Tropical Trend Homes that Mr Lake described as “one of a kind”.
The property at 37 Freshwater Avenue, Palm Cove, sold for $1.15m with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and one car space across its 546sq m block.
Sold mid last month, the home was described as having “a level of simplistic yet sophisticated tropical elegance that will change your perception of a home or living space in the tropics”.
“It offers the opportunity to share your oasis with guests with as much or as little interaction as you or they desire”.
A more recent million-dollar sale came off 52 Cedar Road, Palm Cove – a four bedroom, three bathroom, four car space property sitting on an 800sq m block.
It was sold for $1.5m on July 13 by agent Shira David Stern of Twomey Schriber Property Group Cairns City.
She listed it as having over 455sq m of living space over two levels, with seamless flow between them and just 500 metres from the shore. Ms Stern described it as a “quintessential sea change”.
All up it has three living spaces inside plus a media room, with a lap pool outside and spa solar heated for year-round use.
