Prince Harry mocks Donald Trump during awkward late-night TV appearance

Prince Harry has surprised audiences by making pointed jokes about President Trump during an unexpected appearance on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show. WATCH THE VIDEO.

Prince Harry lured booed after taking a jab at President Donald Trump during an awkward appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert as he teased Americans over their obsession with the royals.

Harry crashed Colbert’s monologue at the Ed Sullivan Theater in NYC on Wednesday night US time, local time, when the late-night host poked fun at the various “problematic” Christmas-themed movies centred around royalty.

“I genuinely thought this was the audition for the Gingerbread Prince saves Christmas in Nebraska,” Prince Harry quipped as he walked out onto the stage.

Harry joked he wanted to go into acting because he knew how “obsessed” Americans were with Christmas movies and royalty. Colbert dismissed the claims, which set the Duke of Sussex up for the scripted response.

“Really? I heard you elected a king,” Prince Harry said while boos and groans erupted from the audience.

“That’s a fair point, no, he’s got a point,” Colbert told booing audience members.

“And often making such a big deal about my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather George III,” Prince Harry said about the king of Great Britain who held the throne at the time of the American Revolution.

President Trump, 79, was again referenced, but never named, when Prince Harry listed what he would do to land a role on Colbert’s fictional Hallmark movie.

“I’ll record a self-tape, I’ll fly myself to an audition, settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House. All the things you people on TV do,” Prince Harry said, referencing CBS’s US$16 million settlement with Mr Trump.

“Hey, Harry, I didn’t do any of those things,” Colbert said.

“Maybe that’s why you’re cancelled,” Prince Harry shot back.

President Trump has accused CBS and 60 Minutes of deceptively editing an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election.

The then-Republican nominee demanded that the network release the unedited tapes of Harris’ interview, where she gave two different answers to a question about Israel by host Bill Whitaker in clips aired on 60 Minutes and Face the Nation.

CBS and parent company Paramount settled with Mr Trump in July, weeks later, cancelling Colbert’s show, with the host claiming it was because of Mr Trump and not a “financial decision” by the company.

President Trump and Prince Harry have been at odds over the past year, as the “Spare” author faced a possible deportation in February over issues with his immigration status.

The self-exiled British royal faced accusations of concealing past illegal drug use that should have disqualified him from obtaining a US visa, but Mr Trump ruled out tossing the royal out of the country.

“I don’t want to do that. I’ll leave him alone. He’s got enough problems with his wife. She’s terrible,” Mr Trump told The Post in February, referring to Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle.

President Trump later took a thinly veiled dig at Prince Harry during his speech at the state banquet at Windsor Castle in September, telling King Charles he raised a “remarkable son,” referring to Prince William and leaving out the estranged younger sibling.

Colbert’s monologue ended with him and Harry in an awkward embrace as fake snow fell on them.
