‘Ryde, emphasis on Ryde’: Woman lashes out at innocent staff in ugly rant

Shoppers at a Sydney shopping centre were left stunned after a woman went on a racist rant targeting staff throughout the complex.

A woman has gone viral for her racist behaviour, after footage captured her abusing staff and yelling racial slurs while at a Sydney shopping centre.

The Top Ryde City customer was filmed on multiple occasions ranting about the community while wheeling a suitcase and backpack throughout the shops.

In one video posted to Reddit, the woman is seen yelling at a Coffee Club employee who was simply doing his job as shocked onlookers watched.

“This is my country so f*** off Asian,” the woman yelled.

“F**k off Asian, get away you f*****g Asian.”

A male voice could be heard trying to intervene however the disgruntled customer stormed off.

The incident left viewers online gobsmacked, with the original poster of the Reddit post labelling her actions “sad to see, especially in Australia”.

“Worker attempted to clear the table and was met with a barrage of racist insults towards his Asian ethnicity (Chinese, virus spreading, etc),” the video’s caption read.

Another person described the woman’s actions as “pretty s**t” while defending the Coffee Club staff.

“I had breakfast there this morning. They are super polite, non-intrusive workers, (her behaviour was) pretty poor.”

A second comment read: “Australian (woman) claiming it’s her country even though her ancestors colonised.”

Scott Meneilly, CEO of Minor DKL food group, told news.com.au he’s aware of the “deeply upsetting incident” that occurred at the Coffee Club Top Ryde over the weekend.

“The Coffee Club prides itself on providing a safe, comfortable, inclusive environment for all and we do not condone this type of behaviour,” he said.

“We are working closely with our team to ensure they are feeling safe and protected at all times.”

Other viewers of the footage called the woman’s slurs an “embarrassment”, claiming incidents like this rarely happen in the suburb of Ryde itself.

“Top Ryde is a real melting pot. Never seen any of this nonsense there. Her behaviour is abhorrent but rare, luckily, in my experience anyway,” one person said.

Another questioned: ”There seems to be a lot of racism at Ryde? I rarely hear racist comments anymore but the recent times that I have, happened at Top Ryde.”

“Lived in Ryde for over 15 years & I’ve had my fair share of racism from Aussies – mostly ones who speak like her. Never experienced racism in Ryde itself,” a third commented.

Almost 130,000 people live in the City of Ryde which is situated 13.7km out from Sydney’s CBD.
