TWO 40 tonne humpback whales put on a show to remember for the inhabitants of this small boat - at one point coming so close that they accidentally collided with it. The incredible once-in-a-lifetime encounter was captured on camera by professional nature photographer Craig Parry off the coast of Byron Bay, Australia, where he was whale watching with his father. The marine giants were in playful mood, circling the small boat for around 90 minutes and ?spyhopping? - peeking their head out of the water to get a closer look at their surroundings. But it wasn?t all plain sailing - during the course of their revels, one of the whales collided with the front of the boat, lifting it up in the water and giving Craig and his dad a fright. Coming from a country (the Netherlands) with so much light pollution, this marked the first time the photographer had seen the Milky Way so clearly. The red glow in the sky is from the extraordinary atmosphere during the Lunar Eclipse, and the photographer remarked that it was, ‘An experience I will never forget.’ This shot is a panorama comprised of 3 vertical shots.
