NT road deaths: 43yo woman killed near Virginia Rd on Stuart Highway
A woman has been killed after she was struck by a vehicle while walking along the Stuart Highway. LATEST FROM POLICE.
A female pedestrian has been killed in a single vehicle accident on the Stuart Highway about 4am on Friday morning.
NT Police said the fatal accident occurred about 500m north of Virginia Rd on the Stuart Hwy, south of Darwin towards Humpty Doo.
The driver of the vehicle stopped and reported the incident to police and remained at the scene, Northern Watch Commander Michael Valladares said.
Emergency services declared the 43-year-old pedestrian dead at the scene.
Mr Valladares said there would be delays along the Stuart Highway on Friday morning while Major Crash Unit investigate the crash.
“Both inbound lanes of the Stuart Highway are closed 500m north of Virginia Rd,” he said.
“Traffic is being diverted via Virginia Rd through Morgan Rd until at least midday today, so expect delays.”
St John NT paramedics attended the crash, reporting it was a “distressing scene”.
This death brings the total lives lost on Territory roads this year to ten, compared with 20 at the same time in 2024.
