NT Police arrest man on Darwin’s Knuckey Street

A man who has been on the radar of police for several days has been cornered and arrested in the city, after a K9-led team cornered him in a second-floor car park.

A man wanted in relation to domestic violence offences has been cornered and arrested in the Darwin CBD, with a police dog leading the charge.

About 9.50am on Thursday, around 10 police officers – reinforced with a K9 – surrounded the Luma Luma Holiday Apartments on Knuckey Street.

Several officers were seen positioning themselves around the block, keeping a watchful eye on the floors above.

The remainder of the officers snaked upstairs to the second-floor carpark, with the K9 leading the team.

Streetside, curious onlookers could be seen watching with coffees in hand.

After a few tense minutes, the K9 could be heard barking from a second-floor car park above, followed by an abrupt silence.

Moments later, a man wearing a maroon shirt was marched from the building in handcuffs and placed in the back of a paddy wagon.

A witness told a NT News reporter at the scene the man had been “aggressive” in a nearby bakery prior to police arriving.

Staff members were reportedly forced to lock the man out.

An NT Police spokesperson said the man had been of interest for several days.

“NT Police Force has arrested a 21-year-old male in relation to domestic violence offences over the last week,” they said.

“Casuarina general duties and Dog Operations Unit members executed an arrest in the Darwin CBD this morning.

“Investigations remain ongoing and charges are expected to follow.”
