NT Police arrest 25-year-old man allegedly supplying 3kg of meth in Top End carpark
A 25-year-old man charged by police with allegedly doing a brazen deal for 3kg of methamphetamine in broad daylight at a shopping centre car park. He can now be named after appearing in court.
NT Police have arrested a man who was allegedly in the process of supplying three kilograms of a dangerous drug in a Top End shopping centre carpark.
Police allege they became aware of the deal while in the process of executing a search warrant on December 6 a home in Woolner, where a 29-year-old was arrested on drug and weapon offences.
Investigations from the Drug and Organised Crime Squad revealed the man was allegedly expecting a delivery of methamphetamine at a later date.
On Tuesday, detectives arrested a 25-year-old man, Naser Abdullah Turki, in the carpark of a shopping centre at Trower Rd, Casuarina at about 3.50pm, allegedly while he was in the middle of doing a deal for the 3kg of methamphetamine in his possession.
Police charged Mr Turki with supplying a commercial quantity of a schedule 1 dangerous drug and possessing a commercial quantity of a schedule 1 drug.
He appeared in Darwin Local Court on Thursday.
Mr Turki made no application for bail and his charges were adjourned to January 22, 2025.
Superintendent Lee Morgan said the arrests were the result of “exemplary police work and extensive investigative efforts”.
“The supply and distribution of methamphetamine causes significant harm in our community both in health outcomes and in financially stability,” he said.
“Drug consumption is often a precursor to property crime, assaults and domestic and family violence.
“We remain committed to disrupting the flow of illicit substances onto our streets and safeguarding our community.
“Anyone with information on the supply of alcohol or drugs to our communities can call police on 131 444 or make an anonymously report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
