‘Screaming’: Woman fatally stabbed at Cooloola Cove near Gympie, Qld

Neighbours in a small town heard “screaming” in the hours before a woman in her 50s died of stab wounds.

A woman has been killed in a stabbing in regional Queensland overnight.

Police say the woman, aged in her 50s, was stabbed at Cooloola Cove on Sunday night.

The Gympie Times reports police had been called to the house multiple times before Sunday’s incident.

Neighbours told the Times they heard screaming on Sunday afternoon.

On Monday morning, forensics officers entered the home, which is three streets away from the small town’s supermarket.

Officers were called to the scene on Creekside Esplanade about 7.15pm following reports a woman had suffered a stab wound.

The woman could not be saved by emergency services and died at the scene.

“A man in his 50s is assisting police with their inquiries,” a Queensland Police Service spokesperson said.

Cooloola Cove is in the Gympie region, about 160km north of Brisbane.

Police have set up a crime scene, and want anyone with information to come forward.
