Eighty-six shearers from across the country have competed at the Quick Shears Shindig at Thargomindah in South West Queensland, where $25,000 in prize money was up for grabs.
The winner of the open class, Jovan Tiaki, beat 36 other competitors to take home $7000 and earn the title of Australia’s Best Shearer.
The three-day event also featured market stalls, a shearers lunch, Colour Run and food vendors.
A spokeswoman for the event said it was a true celebration of the outback.
“Rising market prices, good recent rains and a renewed interest in the sheep market have heralded a return to better days, and this event is a celebration and showcase of the wool industry,” she said.
“It will be bigger and better in 2022!”
