Lizzo announced as headline act for iconic music festival
Superstar Lizzo has been announced as the headline act for Byron Bay music festival, Splendour in the Grass.
Pop and R&B star Lizzo is set to headline this year’s Splendour in the Grass music festival.
The body positive superstar takes the stage in July, following her Record of the Year win at this year’s Grammy’s for her hit About Damn Time.
Lizzo released her fourth studio album, Special, in 2022, reaching number two on the ARIA Albums Charts.
The singer, rapper and songwriter is one of a strong line-up for the famed festival, which is hoping to make up for a less than successful event in 2022.
Organisers were forced to apologise after bad weather ruined the event for festival-goers.
The 2023 festival will be held at the North Byron Parklands on the weekend of Friday, July 21st-Sunday, July 23rd.
Splendour organisers promised a “cracking celebration”.
“After 20 editions of mosh pits, memorable moments, thought-provoking panels, iconic live music and yes, mud, Splendour is ready to welcome you back to North Byron Parklands in 2023 for a cracking celebration,” co-founders Paul Piticco and Jessica Ducrou said in a statement shared on Splendour’s official website.
The pair said the 2022 edition of the festival was the most challenging and difficult year ever.
“While we can’t control the weather, we can manage how we respond and for that, we are deeply sorry,” the statement said.
“Apart from the condition of the grounds and its accessibility we recognise that the impacts extended to traffic failings on Thursday that heavily affected not only you but the local community, as well as two of the bus routes on the Saturday night which resulted in unacceptable wait times.”
