Liberal Party volunteers tell voters opposition will ‘make Australia smile again’
Video has emerged of Trump-like slogans being spouted by a Liberal Party volunteer at a NSW pre poll site.
The Liberal Party is promising to “make Australia smile again” and “make Australia great again” at pre-polls across NSW with a slogan that has prompted fresh comparisons with Donald Trump.
Blasting out from trucks promoting candidates in NSW, the phrase “make Australia smile again” is also being used according to Labor volunteers with voters arriving to vote.
Video obtained by news.com.au confirms it’s being used when the NSW Liberals hand out how to vote cards at multiple electorates.
In one of the videos, a young Liberal volunteer clearly states, “make Australia great again”, mirroring the MAGA slogan used by Mr Trump.
It’s not the first time the Liberals have come under fire for stealing Mr Trump’s slogans.
Senator Jacinta Price was questioned earlier in the campaign about whether her call to “make Australia great again,” was a line borrowed from the US President, however she denied any connection to the divisive American.
Speaking to Liberal Party stalwarts during the event, she said: “We have incredible candidates right around the country that I’m so proud to be able to stand beside and to ensure that we can make Australia great again, that we can bring Australia back to its former glory, that we can get Australia back on track,” she said.
Speaking to reporters later, she denied the connection.
“If I said that, I didn’t even realise I said that, but no, I’m an Australian and I want to ensure that we get Australia back on track,” she said.
Following sustained questioning, she then accused reporters of being “obsessed” with Mr Trump.
“So let’s be very, very clear, media, you’re all obsessed with Donald Trump. We’re not,” she said.
