Supermarket giants Coles and Woolworths are going head to head in a new home delivery war, joining forces with Uber Eats and DoorDash.

From today, Coles customers will be able to order up to 17,000 products from the supermarket directly through the Uber Eats app, with delivery taking just one hour.

Coles and Uber Eats anticipate that demand will reach its peak on Christmas Eve when customers are stocking up for the festive season and making last-minute emergency purchases.

To use the service, shoppers open the Uber Eats app and click on or search for ‘Coles’ to browse and order from the expanded range.

Uber One Members will get free deliveries on eligible orders for and $20 off their first order over $40 for new Coles customers on Uber Eats.

Jonathan Torr, Coles Executive General Manager eCommerce said the new arrangement would make it more convenient for customers.

“Just over two and a half years since Coles and Uber Eats launched their national grocery delivery partnership, we’re excited to make it even easier for Australians to order more of the quality fresh produce, everyday essentials and products they love.

“It’s another way we’re helping our customers get what they need, wherever they need it, whether they’re juggling busy schedules and family commitments, need a quick refill, or are hosting an event over the holiday season.”

Meanwhile rival Woolworths has announced its own new delivery partnership with the DoorDash platform

Woolies shoppers across the nation  will soon be able to purchase  a wide range of  products, including pantry staples, fresh food and household essentials, with fast delivery through DoorDash.

Simon Rossi, vice-president of DoorDash in the Asia Pacific, said having Woolworths on the platform would bring customers more choice and greater access to fresh produce and everyday essentials.

“Consumer choice is at the heart of what we do at DoorDash, and with Woolworths joining our platform, we’re more excited than ever to bring even more grocery selection to more households across the country,”  Mr Rossi said.

Woolworths Group Managing Director, eComX, Amitabh Mall said: “Customers continue to look for more fast and flexible options to fulfil their grocery needs, and we continue to invest in a range of On Demand options to meet customers where they are.

“Partnering now with DoorDash allows us to add another convenient option that will leverage our extensive store network to reach more customers, more often, through platforms they already use every day.”

It comes after budget supermarket ALDI announced an exclusive delivery partnership with  DoorDash from most  locations across Australia.

Both Coles and Woolworths will continue their existing home delivery arrangements in addition to their new partnerships.
