AACTA Awards red carpet live updates: All the best and worst dressed stars

Australia’s top stars have arrived for the AACTA Awards alongside Robbie Williams, where Oscar nominee Guy Pearce was spotted wearing a ‘Free Palestine’ brooch.

AACTA awards red carpet is underway!

It was a red carpet with a humid beachside twist – Australia’s top stars have descended on the Gold Coast to celebrate out best in film and television.

Teresa Palmer, Henry Cavill, Phoebe Tonkin, Kitty Flanagan and Robbie Williams were among the big names set to walk the red carpet at the 2025 Australian Academy of Arts and Cinema (AACTA) Awards today.

Held at the Home of the Arts (HOTA), Academy Award winner Russell Crowe hosted the black tie event that will honour the best in show on the big and small screen for the year.

While Robbie Williams film Better Man and Netflix series Boy Swallows Universe were the big winners in the ceremony, it was all about the red carpet for Confidential.

Being on the Gold Coast, stars version of ‘black tie’ was refreshingly a little looser than if the awards were held in a capital city.

Strife star Asher Keddie opted for the “slinkiest, most lightweight thing I could find for humidity” that her son had chosen.

Keddie’s co-star Emma Lung meanwhile was one of Confidential’s best dressed of the night in Melbourne designer Clear.

“It is comfortable, I love a 60s flare,” she said, noting the dress was perfect for the Gold Coast heat.

“I am not a gown person, I think I would look a bit silly in a gown.”

Sophie Wilde and Phoebe Tonkin went for international brands in vintage Loewe and Channel respectively.

Asked who she would like to work with in the future, Tonkin said: “Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett, Margot Robbie … I mean there are just so many amazing Australian actors I would love to work with, so hopefully one day”.

Teresa Palmer also went international in Prada.

“It is such a fun night,” Palmer said.

“I always know so many people here, so it’s always just a reunion.”

Filmmaker and actor Gracie Otto has arrived at the AACTAs, dressed in a flowing black and cream gown her father – actor Barry Otto – created in collaboration with Zimmerman.

“This is an original print from the 60s that he did,” she explained before winning Best Documentary for Otto by Otto, a film about her dad’s battle with alzheimers.

“I thought he would be proud tonight if I wore this.”

Dami Im wore custom Joteo.

“It’s cool to be pregnant,” she said, laughing: “it keeps happening to me”.

Sharon Johal, dressed in a Carolina Herrera strapless gown, was forced to do her own makeup on the flight from Melbourne to QLD and her hair in the Uber after a last minute cancellation by a ‘professional’.

“I chose this dress because I felt like it was romantic and whimsical,” she said.

“Not necessarily my style but it has pockets.”

The AACTAs will be broadcast on Ten at 7.30pm, with an extended version, including all awards from the ceremony, to screen on BINGE and Foxtel from 7.30pm on Saturday.
