More communities impacted by Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina can now access disaster recovery assistance.

Litchfield Council, Cox–Daly Unincorporated Area, Marrakai–Douglas Daly Unincorporated Area, West Daly Regional Council and Victoria Daly Regional Council are all now eligible.

However, to apply for the grants residents must visit a welfare support centre in person – and they are all based in Darwin and Palmerston.

Financial assistance is available under the federal and NT government jointly-funded Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), to facilitate the recovery process, and provide immediate relief to individuals and families forced to evacuate during the event.

In addition, joint support is being provided for counter disaster and immediate relief operations, including removal of debris to allow safe access to homes and essential public infrastructure, temporary repairs to public infrastructure and long-term reconstruction of damaged roads, bridges and public infrastructure.

Eligible primary producers may access Freight Subsidy Disaster Assistance to offset costs associated with emergency fodder, replacement fencing materials and replacement livestock.

The subsidy covers up to 50 per cent of freight costs, capped at $5000.

In addition, non-profit organisations whose assets have been significantly damaged as a direct result of Cyclone Fina can apply for Asset Assistance Grants of up to $10,000 to repair or replace affected assets.

“I’ve met with families, community leaders and small businesses from Wurrumiyanga to Wanguri, and the Territory spirit has been on full display,” Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said.

“Territorians have been quick to get on with the clean up so they can get back to doing what they love most and prepare for Christmas.

“The Northern Territory government will continue partnering with the Commonwealth and local stakeholders to make sure every affected community gets the support they need.”

More details about grant eligibility can be found at the Secure NT website.
