A 56-year-old man has been killed after a light aircraft crash near Toowoomba in the second fatal plane crash to rock the region in the past fortnight.

A 56-year-old man has died after his glider plane crashed into a wheat field near Wainui Soldiers Road in Bowenville at around 6.30pm on Wednesday.

It is understood the man’s glider was reported missing after he was overdue to arrive by two hours.

He died at the scene.

Forensic Crash Unit are preparing a report for the corner and are still investigating.

It comes after a pilot and external flight examiner were killed in a separate light plane crash at Oakey on Sunday, July 20.

Robert “Bob” Molony and Wayne Saunders were killed in the “terrible tragedy”.

It is understood the Aero Logistics pilot had only fleeting contact over their radio before the plane crashed and exploded in a cattle paddock.

Emergency services were called to the scene but the two men were declared dead at the scene.

The Australian Transport and Safety Bureau has previously revealed it could take up to six weeks before flight crash investigators understand why a twin-engine Cessna Caravan fell out of the sky at Oakey.
