Tuesday, December 9, 12pm: A man who allegedly assaulted his partner with a broken bottle in Alice Springs has been charged and given a court date, cops say.

On Tuesday, NT Police said the 48-year-old man accused of the horrific domestic violence assault – which is alleged to have occurred on Saturday – has been formally charged.

He has been charged with being armed with an offensive weapon, aggravated assault, and aggravated recklessly endangering serious harm, police said.

Police previously said his partner was hospitalised with “non-life-threatening injuries” over the alleged assault.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court on Tuesday, police said.

Kids ask woman for water, then threaten her with knife

Tuesday, December 9, 6.30am: A Red Centre resident who let two boys into her front yard after they asked for water was instead allegedly threatened with a knife, police say.

NT Police Southern Watch Commander Marc Watson said the woman was threatened in suburban Alice Springs Monday, just after 7.45pm.

The two youths entered the woman’s yard on Bokhara St, Larapinta asking for some water from the garden tap, Mr Watson said.

When the resident obliged, one of the youths allegedly began threatening her, he said.

Mr Watson alleged the youth had a large knife tucked under his shirt which was used to threatened the resident, demanding the woman’s keys.

The woman ran inside and locked her doors, while the two youths fled, with police now searching for them, Mr Watson said.

He described the first as around 14 years old, a caucasian with fair complexion, five foot seven tall with sandy hair, and was wearing light coloured clothing, Mr Watson said.

The second was described as 16 years old, with a dark complexion, shoulder length wavy hair, and wearing dark clothing.

He urged anyone to call police on 131 444 and quote reference P25332043 if they had any information.

Tennant Creek car theft ends with 15yo’s arrest

Tuesday, December 9, 6.15am: A 15-year-old is in custody in Tennant Creek, arrested in connection to alleged car theft, but police say they’re searching for more people in connection.

NT Police Southern Watch Commander Marc Watson alleged a Toyota Prado was stolen in the Barkly capital, then allegedly driven dangerously through the town “for some time”.

There were “a number of pursuits” by police to stop the car, Mr Watson said.

Police deployed tyre deflation devices, bringing the car to halt, Mr Watson said, with a number of youths spilling out of the car.

Mr Watson said a 15-year-old was arrested after the car was halted, but the remaining youths remaining outstanding.

The 15-year-old is expected to be charged today, Mr Watson said.

He said anyone with information should contact police on 131 444.

Broken bottle used in horrific DV assault in Alice Springs, cops allege

Monday, December 8, 2pm: A woman has been hospitalised in Alice Springs after she was allegedly assaulted by her partner with a broken bottle, police say.

NT Police alleged the assault occurred at Sadadeen, suburban Alice Springs, on Sunday evening, with a 48-year-old man arrested in relation to the alleged assault.

The woman – whose age was not provided – was left with “serious but non-life-threatening injuries” after the alleged assault, police said.

The man is expected to be charged on Monday, police said.

Police said investigations are continuing into the alleged assault and urged anyone with information to contact police on 131 444.

Used syringe wielded in alleged Alice hospital rampage, cops say

Monday, December 8, 6.30am: A woman who allegedly threatened hospital staff with a used syringe has been charged.

NT Police Southern Watch Commander Marc Watson said the woman, aged 19, was arrested on Sunday morning after an alleged rampage at Alice Springs Hospital emergency department, which police were alerted to just before 10am.

“The woman allegedly threatened staff and security, and when security attempted to escort the woman outside, she allegedly “dug her fingernails into a security guard, drawing blood,” Mr Watson said.

He said outside, the woman allegedly threatened security with a used syringe, and also allegedly damaged the glass doors of the hospital.

“Patients in the ED waiting area were escorted to another area as the woman was locked outside Mr Watson said.

“The woman was arrested has been charged with damage to property, being armed with an offensive weapon, and assaulting a worker.”

She is due to appear in the Alice Springs court on Monday.
