Magnitude 1.6 quake originating in Alawa shakes Top End
The 1.6 magnitude quake originated in Darwin’s northern suburbs, and follows a 5.3 magnitude quake in May.
Darwin residents felt a slight shudder on Wednesday morning, the result of a small earthquake originating from beneath Darwin’s northern suburbs.
The 1.6 magnitude quake originated from a location near Trower Rd in Alawa at a depth of eight kilometres at approximately 8:45am on Wednesday, according to data from Geoscience Australia.
The small quake follows a larger 5.3 magnitude quake that shook the Top End on May 10.
That quake, originating in the Banda Sea east of Timor and felt as far south as Batchelor, rattled windows and wobbled armchairs across the Top End.
