After months behind bars, the identity of a man accused of raping a sleeping woman in Alice Springs can now be revealed.
The identity of a man currently before the courts in Alice Springs charged with rape can now be revealed, more than six months after he was first arrested.
Henry Larry, 23, has been committed to the Supreme Court charged with allegedly raping a sleeping woman in Alice Springs last December.
The woman was in her home in Eastside, suburban Alice Springs, when she woke to a man sexually assaulting her just after 10pm, NT police said in December.
Mr Larry was arrested on December 7 and charged by police in relation to the alleged sexual assault.
He has been on remand since his arrest in December, and was committed to the Supreme Court on four charges: two counts of sexual intercourse without consent; one charge of gross indecency without consent; and a single charge of aggravated burglary on a dwelling.
He was committed to the Supreme Court on May 15, and is yet to enter a plea.
His matter was before Justice Meredith Day Huntingford on Wednesday in the Alice Springs Supreme Court during the criminal call over.
Prosecutor David Dalrymple said he’d filed an indictment in the matter, while Mr Larry’s defence lawyer Bronwen Robertson said “DNA material” had recently been disclosed.
Ms Robertson sought an adjournment as she was due to meet with her client in the coming week, and after the meeting would be “in a position to confirm the direction of the matter”.
Mr Larry was not present in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Under the 1983 NT Sexual Offences (Evidence and Procedure) Act, the names of individuals charged with sexual crimes are suppressed until they are committed to the Supreme Court.
Mr Larry first appeared in court on December 11.
During a previous court mention in April, prosecutor Tania McKinney said the prosecution will be using forensic evidence and body worn footage from police in the case.
On Wednesday, Justice Huntingford adjourned the matter to the July 2 Supreme Court criminal call over.
She remanded Mr Larry in custody.
