Fiona Peters of Palmerston delivers about $700 worth of Easter eggs to those in need
A Palmerston mum has gone out of her way to keep the magic of Easter alive, delivering hundreds of dollars worth of chocolate eggs to those in a need.
A mum from Palmerston has spent her long weekend delivering hundreds of chocolate eggs as a “hand up” to help keep the magic of Easter alive for those going through a tough time.
Moulden resident Fiona Peters said she delivered 115 packages of Easter eggs – about $700 worth – as well as toys to those doing it tough in Palmerston over the long weekend.
Talking about the some of the feedback she received, Mrs Peters got a touch emotional when she recounted how the delivery helped one single mother with an eight-year-old boy.
“She reached out and said that she could only buy him one Easter bunny this year, however, she wanted him to have a couple of more eggs because he still believes in the Easter Bunny,” she said.
“So we certainly kept the magic alive and we ended up dropping her two bags.
“She gave me the biggest hug when I dropped it off and became quite emotional.
“With all of the crime and the bad publicity and negativity around, to me this makes it all worth it. If those kids realise the magic’s still there, hopefully there’s we’ve got chance.”
Mrs Peters said she’s been delivering the eggs for the last 12 years, and it started when her children wanted to give their own eggs to those who might not have some.
“It started off with only a few packs and then over the years it’s grown,” she said.
With the help of the local Woolies and dozens of others who also donated eggs and toys, Mrs Peters said she spent just under five hours delivering 115 packs of eggs.
She said all the eggs were hidden, so the kids who found could still believe “the Easter bunny came this morning”.
“I really like the proverb ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ and it really resonates with me during the festive season,” she said.
“Everyone’s doing it tough no matter what tough looks like – there’s financial tough and there’s emotional tough.”
Mrs Peters said she would deliver eggs next year.
Anyone who potentially wants to help should keep an eye out on Facebook for posts about it on the Palmerston community groups, she said.
