The Australian auctioneering community has lost one of its most renowned figures with the passing of Michael Glasser.

Mr Glasser is being fondly remembered by friends and colleagues for his extensive career in the stud stock industry, and his role at the forefront of some of nation’s biggest livestock sales.

Elders Victoria and Riverina stud stock manager and fellow auctioneer Ross Milne praised Mr Glasser for his exceptional skill in the field.

“He had excellent product knowledge, a great rapport with buyers, charisma but also was very genuine and that is why he was held in such high regard,” Mr Milne said.

“He sold beside some of the best in the industry — Tony Dowe, Kevin Norris and Paul Dooley — and he was a great person.”

Mr Milne noted that Mr Glasser had a remarkable ability to connect with people. He was also eager to give back to the industry, having mentored many younger people, including Mr Milne himself.

Mr Glasser worked for Elders for many years before establishing his own company, GTSM, alongside wife Maz. Mr Glasser returned to Elders about a year ago.

“When Michael came back to Elders, he wanted to reconnect with his clients but he was very keen to mentor young people because that was the kind of guy he was,” Mr Milne said.

“He was so well liked.”

Away from his work duties, Mr Milne said Mr Glasser’s passions were his family and horses, and had competed at a camp draft about a month ago.

He said Mr Glasser would be missed.

“Michael had a quick wit on the rostrum, he was a professional who knew livestock very well but also had a great love of livestock too,” he said.

His work was acknowledged at last week’s Hereford National show and sale, where fellow auctioneer Paul Dooley spoke of his commitment to that event, as well as the industry.

Mr Glasser is survived by his wife Maz, and their children.
