Tradie killed by fallen power line in Randwick, Sydney

A tradie has been killed after he was electrocuted by fallen power lines and went into cardiac arrest on a suburban street.

A tradie who was reportedly operating a cherry picker has been killed in a horrific workplace incident after coming into contact with powerlines.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Darley Rd, Randwick near the popular Centennial Park in eastern Sydney following reports a 47-year-old man had been injured about 2pm on Thursday.

Police from the Eastern Beaches Area Command provided first aid to the worker until paramedics arrived.

He was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital where he died.

Electricty company Ausgrid said it was cooperating with SafeWork NSW and Police.

“Ausgrid is undertaking a full review of the circumstances and is assisting SafeWork NSW and the NSW Police with their inquiries,” a company statement said.

“At Ausgrid the safety and wellbeing of our employees and customers is our number one priority and we are working to support our staff and their families during this very sad time.”

A NSW Police spokesman said a report will be prepared for the coroner.

SafeWork NSW has also been notified.
