Sheffield Shield 2025-26: Mitchell Marsh lasted just 22 balls in his red-ball cricket return
Mitchell Marsh provided the Australian selectors very little to ponder after falling cheaply in the second innings of his Sheffield Shield return.
The potential Ashes cameo of Mitchell Marsh wore a major hit on Saturday as he fell cheaply in the second innings of his Sheffield Shield return.
Marsh made 9 off 16 balls in the first innings against Victoria at the MCG and added just 4 runs before he held out into the deep.
He played a confident drive in his second over at the crease but the Vics successfully lured Marsh into the short ball trap.
Marsh was caught in the deep by David Moody off the bowling of Sam Elliott in the 12th over.
He batted at No. 4 after Western Australia deployed Corey Rocchiccioli as a nightwatchman before stumps on day two.
The dismissal left the visitors 3-17, still 44 in arrears of the ladder-leading Vics.
Marsh was speculated to be in Australian selectors’ thoughts as a Sam Konstas-like injection to the top of the order late in the Ashes series.
Elliott, meanwhile, dismissed both Rocchiccioli and Marsh, continuing his brilliant match after 5-33 in the first innings.
Victoria has won four of its five Shield matches this summer and was in a commanding position again at the point of Marsh’s dismissal on day three.
