Residents evacuated after bus crashes into house, triggering gas leak
One person has been injured and residents have been forced to flee after a bus crashed into a house in a major city’s western suburbs.
Passengers on a bus in Western Sydney have had a lucky escape after a bus crashed into a home, triggering a gas leak and leaving one person in hospital.
Emergency services were called to a house on Guildford Rd, Guildford about 10am Sunday morning after reports a bus had smashed into the property.
The bus drove directly into the house, leaving the front of the property completely ripped apart, scraps of wood and debris dangling from the wreckage and the roof partially caved in. Reports from The Daily Telegraph indicate the bus was travelling at approximately 60km/h when it smashed into the home.
Paramedics from NSW Ambulance were on the scene and treated one person, who was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
Police confirmed the residents inside the property were evacuated due to a gas leak, triggered by the crash.
“The bus driver – a 60-year-old man – was subject to a roadside breath test, returned with a negative result,” a NSW Police spokesman told NewsWire.
Construction workers were on the scene to cordon off the area, placing temporary fencing around the crumbling property.
Guildford Rd, near the intersection of Vulcan St, has been closed off in both directions while police conduct an investigation into the crash.
The public have been urged to avoid the area at this time.
