Parade of ducks shut down Kwinana Freeway in Western Australia, traffic chaos ensues
A family of ducks have sparked traffic chaos, shutting down multiple lanes of a major Aussie highway while trying to cross.
An adorable family of ducks have caused traffic chaos on a busy Aussie highway.
Video from traffic cameras shows the family, consisting of two adult ducks and five ducklings, waddling across the Kwinana Fwy at Canning on Friday morning, with traffic backed up to let them cross.
Some 100 vehicles are seen stopped on the four-lane highway, as a couple shepherd the ducks across.
The duck parade pushed back traffic to Leach Hwy, Main Roads WA said.
An accident happened later on the highway, knocking out northbound right lanes.
“Main Roads cannot confirm if the traffic incident was caused by ducks on the freeway,” a Main Roads spokeswoman told NewsWire.
“However, Main Roads urges motorists to exercise extreme caution and remain in their vehicles if they encounter ducks or other wildlife crossing busy roads.
“If you see ducks, ducklings or wildlife attempting to cross a freeway or road, stay in your car and call for assistance.
“Leave it to responders who are better equipped to safely attend the animal rescue. The safety of all road users is paramount.”
