NSW police officer charged with street racing and crashing luxury car
A young police officer has been charged with street racing offences after he allegedly crashed his luxury car into a power pole.
A NSW police officer has been charged with street racing after he allegedly crashed his vehicle in an incident last year.
The 21-year-old constable was allegedly driving his BMW along the Princes Highway, on the state’s South Coast, just after 7pm on November 16, 2023.
He was allegedly street racing with another vehicle when he lost control of the car and crashed into a power pole.
The driver was not injured in the crash.
“Police will allege in court that the two vehicles were involved in a street race prior to the crash,” NSW police said in a statement.
Police claim the constable, who is attached to a command in the Southern region, organised the race before driving dangerously.
Following an investigation, he was charged with promoting a race between vehicles, driving recklessly or furiously at a dangerous speed, and negligent driving.
The constable’s license was suspended and his employment status is currently under review.
He will appear before the Nowra Local Court on Tuesday April 2.
Inquiries into the alleged street racing incident are ongoing.
Officers from Nowra Traffic Highway Patrol have also spoken with the 18-year-old driver of the second vehicle.
