An American golfer and fan-favourite is heading to Australia for the two ‘majors’ in Queensland and Victoria.

American golfer and crowd favourite Harry Higgs is relishing the prospect of playing in both of the upcoming “Aussie majors” after confirming he will contest the Australian PGA and Australian Open.

Higgs, 32, won twice on America’s secondary Korn Ferry Tour this year to secure his PGA Tour card for 2025.

Before he returns to the PGA Tour, Higgs will travel to Down Under for the November 21-24 Australian PGA at Royal Queensland and the November 28-December 1 Australian Open at the Kingston Heath and Victoria golf clubs,

“Australia has always been on the destination list for (wife) Kailee and I,” Higgs said.

“We love travelling and seeing new parts of the world. It’s all worked out for me to come down to play both of the Aussie majors this year which I’m sure is going to be a great experience.

“It will be a real honour to play in both the Australian Open and Australian PGA in front of the Aussie fans.”

Another overseas player confirmed for both events is Chile’s Cristobal Del Solar, who has been inspired by countryman Joaquin Niemann’s win in last year’s Australian Open.

“Seeing my great mate Joaquin play so well in Australia last year and hearing from him how much he enjoyed the country, the golf courses and the atmosphere of the events, made it an easy decision to come down and experience it for myself,” Del Solar said.

Perth-raised South African Aldrich Potgieter, who like Higgs and Del Solar won on the Korn Ferry Tour this year, will be part of the Australian PGA field.

“Growing up in WA, I always enjoyed watching the big tournaments each summer every year in Australia,” 20-year-old Potgieter said.

“I can’t wait to get to Royal Queensland. There’s plenty of the guys I came through the amateurs with who are now professional who I’m looking forward to catching up with. and then there’s the challenge of going up against players like Jason Day, Cam Smith, Min Woo Lee and Cam Davis.”

Meanwhile, Melbourne-born Karl Vilips, who has earned a 2025 PGA Tour card, has confirmed his participation in the Australian Open.

“I’ve been able to play some of the Sandbelt courses as an amateur, but to get to play Kingston Heath and Victoria in my national Open, alongside players like Min Woo Lee and Cam Smith, is going to be a huge highlight,” Vilips said.

“I can’t wait to play in front of the Aussie crowds and seeing plenty of family and friends while I’m home.”
