A rural NSW man has died after conducting a planned hazard-reduction burn on his property, becoming trapped by the flames.
A man has died after becoming trapped by fire while conducting a planned hazard-reduction burn in the Central West region of NSW.
Emergency services were called to the rural property on The Bogan Way in Forbes – about four hours west of Sydney – at 11.30am on Saturday after reports a man had sustained severe burns.
A NSW Police spokesman said officers were told the man, 75, had been conducting a hazard-reduction burn on one of his paddocks when he became trapped by the fire.
At the time, he was being assisted by members of the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) and his family.
The man was treated at the scene by paramedics and the RFS members before being flown to Royal North Shore Hospital.
He died later that evening.
A crime scene was established at the property and examined by specialist forensic officers.
Initial inquiries suggest the death is not suspicious, a NSW Police spokesman said.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
