A family already battling their young daughter’s medical condition has been left homeless after a tornado tore apart their home.
Last Friday, more than 100 homes were damaged by a destructive storm that swept through parts of Bunbury in Western Australia’s south.
Alan and Tia Bondarczuk lived in one of the homes that was destroyed by the tornado, which struck parts of the coastal town about 4pm.
It was a cruel blow for the family who have been raising funds to pay for their four-year-old daughter Grace’s medical costs after she started suffering seizures in February.
The seizures have caused Grace memory loss and she has been unable to recognise her family, who introduce themselves to her each day.
“Grace (has) experienced difficulty speaking and eating,” Ms Bondarczuk said.
“She couldn’t recall her name and was unable to communicate effectively.
“Grace has been experiencing memory loss and confusion for almost two months, repeatedly forgetting her dad, two sisters and myself.
“It has been a difficult time for all of us to witness her struggle with not remembering who she is, who we are, and where she is.”
The family are on a waiting list to see a specialist team at the Perth Children’s Hospital, as Grace’s condition worsens each day.
“The costs of assessments are unimaginable,” Ms Bondarczuk said.
The family set up a Go Fund Me page to help cover medical and travel expenses to Perth, and pay for scans that aren’t fully covered by Medicare or private health insurance.
More than $8000 has been raised so far.
