Coach Alen Stajcic warns Wanderers not to get ‘carried away’ ahead of Perth clash

The Wanderers are set to face a Perth side that has mirrored their own turnaround, with both teams having bounced back with successive wins after a slow start to the season.

Western Sydney coach Alen Stajcic has warned his Wanderers team not to get carried away with back-to-back wins ahead of a clash against a Perth Glory side that has tasted similar fortunes in its past two games.

The Glory have also enjoyed two straight wins to kick-start their season, with confidence high in Perth’s camp going into Friday night’s clash at HBF Park.

“They’ve got over that hump as well a little bit like us.” Stajcic said.

“Two weeks ago we were on two points, they were are on one point, now we’re eight and they’re seven just two weeks later. It’s going to be an even tougher game for us.

“We’ve built a little bit of momentum and confidence in the group, but certainly we’re not getting carried away either.

“We’re not early doors in terms of the league and all those things in rhythm and confidence, so we just need to keep building and growing and ensure we take our form and improve a little bit this week going into the Perth game.

“We’ve laid a good platform now with what our expectations are, and with what we know we can do and deliver, (but) we know we have to keep improving.”

Friday’s game in Perth will be another chance for caretaker Glory coach Adam Griffiths to prove to club officials that he should be appointed on a permanent basis.

“I’ve only ever heard good reports about him, so I wish him all the best for every game – except (on Friday night),” said Stajcic, a former Glory mentor.

Sydney-born Griffiths was assistant to Perth’s previous coach David Zdrilic, who was sacked after just two matches this season.
