A body has been found in a stormwater drain at a train station in NSW.

A body has been found in a stormwater drain at a train station in Newcastle.

Police made the grim discovery at Waratah station, in the northern suburbs of Newcastle, on Tuesday morning.

A police spokeswoman told NewsWire the man’s body had been removed and a crime scene set up.

The man is yet to be formally identified.

Images from the scene show police concentrated on the uncovered drain right outside the station entrance on Platt St.

Police are yet to say what time the alarm was raised.

At this stage, the Police Transport Command will lead the investigation.
