Southern Watch Commander Mick Fields said the 27-year-old man was allegedly swinging an axe at people on a Sadadeen residential property about 5.15am.

Sergeant Fields alleged one woman was taken to Alice Springs Hospital after the man injured her arm with the weapon.

He said the man was arrested and charged in relation to a “domestic violence-related” aggravated assault, going armed in public and criminal damage.

October 14, 10am: Five horses, which reportedly escaped from a Red Centre paddock, have been reined in after a brief foray of freedom on the Alice Springs streets.

The horses reportedly escaped from a paddock on Undoolya Rd, Alice Springs, according to ABC Radio.

They were on Sadadeen Rd and Berger Ct, grazing grass before police and Alice Springs Town Council rangers banded together to bring them to safety.

By 8.45am, police and rangers had put the horses on an Alice Springs Turf Club truck.

Northern Territory Police Southern Watch Commander Andrew Dunne said the turf club would hold onto to the horses until the owner could collect them.

Southern Watch Commander Mick Fields said a car had been stolen about 1.15am Monday from one of the homes.

Sergeant Fields said the black Toyota Echo had NT registration CF43OT and had not been seen since it was stolen.

He said the thief had entered the home via an open window and remained outstanding.

Sergeant Fields said police were also investigating two additional, separate break-ins.

He said a thief stole jewellery, a wallet, and alcohol from one after removing a laundry window to access the home.

It is unclear exactly what time the break-in occurred.

Sergeant Fields said the rear door of a third home was “forced” open around midnight but the resident was home and nothing was stolen.
