There’s no shortage of choice if you’re in the market for a chaser bin. We searched for products available across Australia and found a wide range of capacity options, from 15 to 78 tonnes.
A pleasant discovery was that there are several domestically manufactured options available, alongside imported bins.
Standard inclusions and optional extras tend to vary between brands, so make your wish list and see how they stack up.

COOLAMON 36T CHASER BIN

With a reliable reputation, Coolamon has integrated heavy duty construction with modern design in its bins, including 8mm floor, 6mm sides and 10mm delivery auger pipe.
Features include a heavy-duty gearbox rated to 100hp, interchangeable size towbar bush to suit all drawbar pin sizes and a drive system designed to handle 1000 PTO with duplex chain.
Dual-axle bins come standard with a walking beam, hydraulic kicker chute and ground-level operated roll-over tarp.
The hydraulic jack comes standard and Coolamon also made a sample port standard, which can be easily accessed at the rear of the bin from ground level.
The rear-steering option creates an easy and tight turning circle, reducing pressure from the tractor and resulting in less soil disturbance and compaction.
Coolamon chaser bins offer full length internal shut-off doors for effective grain control. The rear door with pull-down ladder attached allows safe entry to the bin and is WorkSafe compliant.
Coolamon also offers the choice of either left- or right-hand delivery augers, with an unloading rate of up 18 tonnes a minute with a 24in (61cm) delivery auger.
A long list of options includes rear self-steering system, tramline catcher, weight scales and camera pack.

DAVIMAC DUAL AXLE 35T

Davimac flies the flag well for Australian-made and owned quality chaser bins, offering single-axle bins in 25-tonne and 30-tonne and dual axle in 30-tonne and 35-tonne options.
Davimac has recently upgraded its chaser bins from top to bottom, with stronger, tougher roll tarps and redesigned augers and bearings. They are one of the only manufacturers that offer 12 stud hubs on all bins as standard.
The Davimac single and dual-axle bins come standard with the unique cushion hitch between the chassis and A-frame which protects the tractor, driver and the bin from shunting during operation.
The distinctive curved sides allow the bin to withstand the stress of a full load and reduces vibration when empty, while the high-angle 55-degree bin sides keep grains flowing.
Among the optional extras are weight scales accurate to 2kg per tonne, a long-reach auger adding 600mm for a total length of 6m; adjustable-height hopper chute; and the option of a hydraulic drive with 500rpm.

ELMER’S HAULMASTER 63T

The Elmer’s Haulmaster is a high-capacity, heavy-duty chaser bin. Waringa’s 63-tonne model is the largest in the range, using Elmer’s exclusive fixed-track undercarriage for increased floatation and reduced soil compaction.
The custom designed, direct-drive Powermaster gearbox eliminates belts and drive chains to maximise grain flow efficiency and increase auger output capacity, with an emptying speed of up to 18 tonnes a minute.
Optional wireless scale system and hydraulic joystick control systems are also available. Designed to maximise productivity and unloading efficiency, the joystick offers maximum control over the chaser bin, control of the auger with a double tap and operation of the proportional four-way spout.
The Haulmaster Connect system offers load tracking based on crop type, paddock, truck and bin, and has direct scale connection for more accurate loads.
Haulmaster range is also available in 30T and 36T single-axle wheels or transfer tracks, 30T, 36T and 41T tandem axle, and 46T and 55T on fixed tracks.

BARBER ENGINEERING 45T BOGIE AXLE

Horsham-based Barber Engineering manufactures a wide range of bins from single-axle units through to bogie-axle units up to 45-tonne capacity.
With a commitment to make reliable equipment, an extra heavy-duty gearbox comes as standard as well as all sprockets, chains and bearings beings standardised. Wheel hubs and stub axles are also locally manufactured, which means replacements are readily available.
Standard features include 20in (50cm) augers, with a 24in (61cm) option, as well as lights, manhole access, adjustable-top auger chute and open and close flow control doors, heavy duty landing leg, fire extinguisher and cameras.
Among optional extras are load cells and firefighting units.
A new feature this year is the full-length hydraulic bottom cleanout door. This has a front visual indictor from the tractor cab and is a one-man job. It eliminates the previous rear pullout slide. This option has been widely accepted according to the Barber Engineering team, with current orders all having this new feature.

The Balzer Field Floater 7 is available in 42, 47, 60, 75 and 78 tonnes.
This bin can unload at an impressive rate of up to 30 tonnes a minute.
The electronic joystick control for all functions comes standard and can be mounted anywhere in the cab to aid functionality.
