JOHN Deere’s 2020 6M Series tractor range has been revealed, headlined by a trio of new entry-level short-wheelbase four-cylinder models.

The new 6090M, 6100M and 6120M are the most compact, manoeuvrable 6Ms yet with their 2400mm wheelbase and stand out from higher level models with a unique low-bonnet design.

That latter feature, along with a redesigned steering-wheel cowl and panoramic window in the cab roof, has contributed to a step-up in visibility in front of the machine and for loader work or operation in tight spaces.

A beefier payload of up to 4.7 tonnes and the availability of electric selective control valves (SCVs) are other key advances.

It’s all about making a more functional, versatile tractor for the kind of buyers who need a compact all-rounder, said Cameron Reid, John Deere Australia’s Product Manager – Technical (Small Ag & Turf).

“We really wanted to make it perfect for both the horticulture and livestock markets,” said Mr Reid. “With its compact wheelbase you’re able to be more accessible with it, you’ve got better visibility if you’re going to do any loader work and you’ve got a big increase in payload. It’s got the functionality to do a more diverse range of work.”

As well as being a harder worker, new 6M flaunts a redesigned cab that’s claimed to be quieter, more modern, comfortable, user-friendly and generally easier on the operator.

A range of previously off-limits John Deere technology is now part of the repertoire, including JDLink telematics, the ergonomic CommandARM console and Intelligent Power Management, which boosts power by 20hp during transport or PTO-type applications.

“We’ve made it more like a typical office space that someone’s going to be comfortable in all day,” said Mr Reid. “We wanted to make it easier to use and more comfortable for the customer while bridging the gap to some of those key features they’d want in a tractor.”

First deliveries of the new 2020 6M Series are due to hit Australian shores next April.
