One person dead as serious crash triggers major delays on Brisbane’s Gateway Motorway
One person is dead after a serious multi-vehicle crash on a major city motorway, triggering lengthy delays and marking a horror 24 hours on the state’s roads.
One person has died after a single-vehicle crash on a popular motorway in Brisbane’s eastern suburbs, triggering traffic chaos on Tuesday morning and marking a horror 24 hours on Queensland roads.
Two northbound lanes have been shut on the Gateway Motorway near the Old Cleveland Rd on-ramp in Belmont after a serious truck crash.
Paramedics were called to the motorway about 5.10am on Tuesday after reports of a car pileup.
“Motorists are urged to avoid the area or expect delays,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
Traffic began moving again about 9.30am onTuesday, with aerial footage showing cars stretching back about 17km to the Logan Motorway intersection at Drewvale.
Delays are expected to exceed 90 minutes.
One person has died at the scene at the scene, police confirmed.
The crash follows a horrible few days on Queensland roads, with several people killed in the past 24 hours.
A man died in a two-vehicle crash between a Suzuki motorbike and a white Mitsubishi Fuso at Kippa-Ring, north of Brisbane, about 9.30pm on Monday.
Police said the mini bus caught fire and rolled into a parked vehicle on Oleander St.
The 26-year-old rider of the Suzuki sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.
The Mitsubishi driver, a 51-year-old Clontarf man, was transported to Redcliffe Hospital with minor burns.
On Sunday shortly before 8pm, a man died in a two-vehicle crash between a white Toyota Corolla and a silver Kawasaki ZR1000 at the Beaudesert Beenleigh Road and Mount Warren Boulevard intersection.
The 57-year-old Kawasaki rider from Windaroo suffered critical injuries and died at the scene. The 30-year-old Toyota driver was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital for assessment.
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of both crashes.
